Notes of Interest

Melon beads have been found from pre - SCA times, made of Faince, dating back to 1500 BC.  Over time they were made and traded by all cultures.  Melon beads have been found in many colors.  They are characterized by their round shape with ribs or ridges cut or pressed into the sides. In the 6th century the basic melon shape even went on to become decorated, and the shape changed, and made much larger to become more of an "amulet".  This bead is called the "Magical" bead.
